US Missile Defense Targets China in Asia, US Expert
The US's missile defense in Asia is chiefly aimed at coping with "missile attacks" from the Communist Party of China (CPC), Dr Larry M. Wortzel, Director of Asian Studies Center under the US-based Heritage Foundation told a Japanese paper on July 21.
The US's missile defense in Asia is chiefly aimed at coping with "missile attacks" from the Communist Party of China (CPC), Dr Larry M. Wortzel, Director of Asian Studies Center under the US-based Heritage Foundation told a Japanese paper on July 21.
Dr Wortzel graduated from the U.S. Army War College and twice served as the Army Attache in China. Although the Bush administration doesn't list China as missile defense object and said its defense is pointing to unreasonable countries and accidental missile launchings, Dr Wortzel pointed out that the US should of course at the same time guard against deliberately launched missiles, in this point, the "missile power" China can be called the biggest suspect. Besides, President Bush has given important government posts to people who are for missile defense against China.
The major functions of missile defense against China are as following, according to Dr Wortzel. First, it can fight back the "missile threat" from China. Second, it can help to greatly improve Taiwan's missile defense capability against the mainland. Third, it can restrain China's "threat and attack" to its neighbors since its missiles would fail if Japan and other neighboring countries also have defense capability.
