Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic is facing a risk of heart disease and needs rest, member judges of the United Nations' International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) said Thursday.

"The medical report showed the accused as a man at severe cardiovascular risk," Judge Richard May told the Hague-based court, referring to a medical check ordered in June on the Serb, who is on trial for war crimes in the Balkans during the 1990s.

The ICTY judges said Milosevic, 60, should undergo a further check-up by a cardiologist, based on which the court "will consider any option" available for the future of the trial, according to reports reaching here.

May said the medical report advised that Milosevic should rest and be under constant observation by a cardiologist. But Milosevicreplied: "I never demanded any medical check-up... You should not harbor any illusion that I'm asking for anything."

The ICTY trial has been adjourned several times because of the former Yugoslav leader's health problems. It was last suspended inmid-July after the tribunal said he needed treatment for high blood pressure. Milosevic has also fallen ill with flu twice sincehis trial began.

"Your health is a paramount concern for the trial chamber," Judge Patrick Robinson told Milosevic on Thursday. But Milosevic responded: "This entire matter is a farce. I have no intention of appointing a counsel for a non-existent court."
