The China-Burundi cooperative friendship has been consolidated and is developing well, Chinese Vice-Premier
Qian Qichen
said Thursday.
He made the remark in a meeting with Sebastien Ntahuga, diplomatic advisor of the president of Burundi. "The president himself visited China twice, and the bilateral cooperation has been fruitful," said Qian.
The Chinese government and people appreciates Burundi's attention to relations with China as well as its one-China stance and backing of China on such issues as human rights, Qian said.
The Chinese government attaches great importance to the traditional friendship with Burundi, and is willing to further bilateral exchanges and cooperation, he said.
China is glad to see favorable results in the peace process in Burundi, and will give unremitting support to Burundi's peace drive and national reconciliation, he said.
A letter from the president of Burundi to Chinese President
Jiang Zemin
was handed to Qian by Ntahuga, who expressed thanks for China's support and help for Burundi during its hardships.
Ntahuga said Burundi will adhere to the one-China policy and stand with China in international affairs. Burundi values friendship with China, and will pass on the friendship to younger generations.
On the situation in Burundi, he said the peace process is making progress after some difficulties. The government and anti-government armed forces will sign new peace agreements soon. Once peace arrives, Burundi will devote itself to economic recovery.
Ntahuga came to China on July 23.
