Chinese Vice-premier Meets EU Guests

China is neither a threat to other countries nor in imminent danger of economic collapse, Vice-Premier Qian Qichen vowed to a European Union (EU) delegation Thursday.

China is neither a threat to other countries nor in imminent danger of economic collapse, Vice-Premier Qian Qichen vowed to a European Union (EU) delegation Thursday.

Meeting with the European Economic and Social Committee delegation led by its president Goke Frerichs, Qian said a prosperous China would benefit the whole world.

He said China-EU relations were progressing well, with the EU as China's largest technology supplier, third largest trade partner and an important investor.

The two sides had cooperated well in science and technology, education, energy and the environment, Qian said, adding China waswilling to work with the EU to boost their sound and steady partnership.

Frerichs said he came to China to enhance the two sides' mutualunderstanding and trust. China was an influential country and their cooperation was significant, he said.

He said the two sides should maintain frequent contacts for thepromotion of bilateral ties.

The delegation is here at the invitation of the China Economic and Social Council.
