China Trounces Venezuela 3-0 in World Volleyball League

The Chinese men's volleyball team finally gains their confidence from their last opponent Venezuela in the 2002 World Men's Volleyball League Pool B, beating the visitors 3-0 in the fifth round on Saturday.

China Trounces Venezuela 3-0 in World Volleyball League
The Chinese men's volleyball team finally gains their confidence from their last opponent Venezuela in the 2002 World Men's Volleyball League Pool B, beating the visitors 3-0 in the fifth round on Saturday.

China's head coach Di Anhe said after the game that the victorywill give the Chinese players much more confidence in the following matches. "We need a victory, and this one is just in time." said Di.

The host team displayed a fast attacking game after a tedious opening, marked with flood of errors by both sides, to seal easy wins in the first two sets, 25-19, 25-21.

Venezuela geared up in the third set, strengthening serving andattacking and caused much trouble to the hosts. But the Chinese team, which didn't defend well in the set, made fully utilization of their height advantage and left no chances to the visitors, wonthe set 25-18.

"Today's match was not as tension as the one with Spain last weekend," said Di after the match, "But our players did a stabilized performance with leading us to the win."

"We displayed our fast-attacking style and hopefully we will win tomorrow's match."said Di.

Jose David Suarez, head coach of Venezuela, said, "China is a very tough team, they played a good competition. They are active and efficient in attacking. Our blocking is not good today. Time difference influenced us a lot."

China, which had two wins in the ninth matches, will against Venezuela on Sunday for their second clash in the fifth round.
