Beijing to Double Its Industrial Output within 5 to 8 Years

Beijing is going to carry out an important strategy for the development of industry, i.e. flourishing the modern manufacturing industry. With this as a breakthrough, Beijing will leave no stone unturned to double its gross industrial value within a period of 5 to 8 years.

In this way it is to expand its gross economic volume, enhance its comprehensive strength and competitiveness so as to make new contribution to the solution of a contradiction in which Beijing as a world metropolis is running short in gross economic volume.

When analyzing the conditions for developing modern manufacturing industry it is held that to develop manufacturing industry in Beijing is not only owing to the needs for national development but also to the needs for Beijing to develop its economy by optimizing and updating its industries, a strategy for economic extension and exploration in the Chinese capital.

At present, Beijing sees a rapid yet solitary boom in electronic information industry on the one hand and on the other due to the readjustment in industry structure and strengthening of the work for environment protection the traditional industries, such as iron and steel, coal-mining and textile are shrinking and so it has an urgent need to make up the "industrial vacancy" by introducing something new.

As Beijing Municipality holds that the development of Beijing depends on the hi-tech industries. However, to develop hi-tech industry doesn't mean the computer, mobile phone and network only. It has to be supplemented with modern manufacturing industry, which contains high technology, offers more job-opportunities and obvious contribution for economic growth in Beijing.

As compared to the traditional, the modern manufacturing industry refers mainly to the following two categories: hi-tech manufacturing industry and advanced manufacturing industry by resorting to applicable technologies, for example, computer science, pharmaceutical industry, aviation and spaceflight and so on.

In view of this special characteristic, the Beijing Municipality advocates that with the using of new technology and applicable techniques to improve and update traditional manufacturing industry as orientation and with the stress to be laid on the Beijing economic development area and district and county industrial areas the work of rejuvenating the modern manufacturing industry is going to be combined with the removal of enterprises out from the city proper, talents advantage in the capital and introduction of advanced experience on technology and management from abroad. And with special supporting policy put into practice, facilities in support of the industry will be put into construction accordingly.

Recently we'll see Beijing lay its hand on the better production of automobile, micro-electronic, integration of photo-mechanic-electric, bio-engineering and new pharmaceutical industries, thereby forming a group of modern manufacturing industries featuring the specific character and competitive advantage of the capital of Beijing.

Beijing is going to implement the strategy of booming the modern manufacturing industry with the key projects to take the lead. The first half of the year has already witnessed a batch of key enterprises contracted for reorganization and transformation one in the wake of the other. Beijing Motor Co. has joined hands with the ROK Hyundai Motor Co. for the production of Hyundai cars and it is expected to turn out new cars by the end of the year.
