Beijing Rural Areas See Continued Economic Growth

Beijing's rural areas reported a gross domestic product of 30.44 billion yuan (3.81 billion US dollars) during the first six months of this year, up 11.7 percentfrom the same period last year.

Beijing's rural areas reported a gross domestic product of 30.44 billion yuan (3.81 billion US dollars) during the first six months of this year, up 11.7 percentfrom the same period last year.

At the same time, agricultural restructure developed remarkably,with farmland under cash crops extended by 400,000 mu (26,666.7 hectares), while grazing land grew by 80,000 mu (5,333.3 ha).

Beijing's township enterprises earned a total revenue of 68.25 billion yuan (8.53 billion dollars) during the period, up 20.7 percent compared with the same period last year.

The economy of Beijing's rural areas became more export-oriented, attracting 560 million US dollars in investment from 288foreign companies.

Meanwhile, the per capita income of farmers reached 3,342 yuan (417.6 dollars), up 13.6 percent from the same period last year.
