Turkish Vice PM Hails Relations with China

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli said Monday in Ankara that Turkey and China should strengthen their cooperation in political, cultural, technological and economic areas to further promote the friendly relationship between the two countries.

During his meeting with Dai Bingguo, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Bahceli said bilateral ties between Turkey and China have gained new impetus since Chinese President Jiang Zemin visited Turkey in 2000.

He said on the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, the two states have seen rapid progress in their bilateral relations owing to a series of high-level exchanges after Jiang's visit.

Turkey holds common views with China on many important international and regional issues and it appreciates the great achievements China has made by following its own independent mode of development, Bahceli said.

Turkey and China should carry on the fine traditions of the ancient "Silk Road" and expand their good relations, Bahceli added.

Dai, who came here Saturday with a Chinese delegation, also metTurkish deputy Prime Minister Sukru Sina Gurel on Monday.
