URGENT: ASEAN FMs Wrap Up Annual Meeting

Foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) wrapped up a two-day annual gathering in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei on Tuesday after discussions of terrorism, economy and regional security concerns.

Foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) wrapped up a two-day annual gathering in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei on Tuesday after discussions of terrorism, economy and regional security concerns.

In a joint communique issued at the end of the meeting, the ministers promised closer cooperation in fighting terrorism and further efforts to push regional economic recovery and integration.

ASEAN nations are "resolved to work closely together to meet the challenges to regional peace, stability and sustained growth in the ASEAN region with renewed vigor to build a strong foundation for a secure and prosperous ASEAN," they declared.

The ASEAN foreign ministers' gathering next year will be host by Cambodia, the incoming rotating chair of the bloc.

ASEAN comprises the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand,Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Brunei and Malaysia.
