Strong Earthquake Hits Costa Rica
An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale shook Costa Rica on Tuesday, causing no serious casualties or property losses, local sources reported.

An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale shook

on Tuesday, causing no serious casualties or property losses, local sources reported.
The quake, hitting at 6:17 p.m. (0017 GMT), cracked several buildings in the country's southern area and slightly injured somepeople, according to a preliminary investigation by the Costa Rican National Emergency Committee and Red Cross.
The shock also caused power failure in the border areas betweenCosta Rica and Panama, the sources said.
The epicenter of the quake was 502 kilometers south of San Jose,the capital city of this Central American country, with its focus 15 kilometers below the earth's surface, according to the Costa Rican Volcano and Earthquake Institute.
It was the strongest quake that ever hit Costa Rica in the recent two years, it said.
Officials of Costa Rica warned local people to be aware of possible further quakes.
