Mushrooms produced in Qingyuan County, in eastern China's Zhejiang Province, have procured a special certificate for entering the international trade market.

The certificate that designates the origin and geographic features of a product will prevent unnecessary problems and economic losses in international trade.

Authorized as products of designations of origin and geographical indications, Qingyuan mushrooms are the first mushroom brand in China to secure access to the world market.

Initiated in Europe, the protection of products of special origin in a unique geographic location helps to conserve national specialties, according to a local official in charge of supervision of quality and techniques of products.

The certificate is expected to help the mushroom brand to breakinternational technical barriers and boost the export industry.

Qingyuan County is the cradle of artificially cultivated mushrooms and the largest production base in China. The output of mushrooms here accounts for one tenth of that of the whole country.Sixty percent of the county's mushrooms are exported to Japan, theRepublic of Korea and other east Asian nations and regions.
