Some Indonesian Muslims Protest Powell's Visit

A number of people from the Islamic Youth Movement Friday staged rally at the Indonesia's Foreign Ministry building, protesting the visit by US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

A number of people from the Islamic Youth Movement Friday staged rally at the Indonesia's Foreign Ministry building, protesting the visit by US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Spreading out a banner which says "World is Peace Without the United States", the Islamic Youth Movement said that more people will gather to stage rally against Powell's visit after the Islamic Friday prayer.

Powell was welcomed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda and held closed-door talks with Hassan Wirajuda.

Earlier in the day, a leader of the largest Islamic group Nahdatul Ulama warned Powell not to interfere in Indonesia's domestic affirs.

"If the United States opposes terrorism in Indonesia, so let the Indonesian government fight terrorism here," Nahdatul Ulama's leader Salahuddin Wahid was quoted by Satunet Online News as saying.

Powell, who is on his Southeast Asian 6-nation tour, arrived inJakarta on Thursday evening.

He is due to meet Indonesian President Megwatai Soekarnoputri and other senior officials during his visit here.
