New US consul general arrives in HK

James Keith, the new US Consul General for Hong Kong and Macao, arrived in Hong Kong Thursday to begin his three-year assignment, said the Consulate General of the United States of America in a press release Friday.

James Keith, the new US Consul General for Hong Kong and Macao, arrived here Thursday to begin his three-year assignment, said the Consulate General of the United States of America in a press release Friday.

The Consulate General said Keith will meet with key government,legislative business and community leaders to introduce himself and to hear their views about the issues and events shaping Hong Kong and Macao during the next few weeks.

In his arrival statement, Keith said, "My family and I look forward to joining the Hong Kong community and sharing in the vibrant and stimulating life of the Special Administrative Region (SAR)."

He said, "The world is changing quickly, but the foundation forHong Kong's unique character and economic success over the years remains a constant."

He also said one of his highest priorities will be to advance cooperation with Hong Kong in combating terrorism in every way possible.
