Chinese Girl Missing in San Francisco

A 12-year-old girl from China from a youth tour group to the United States was missing Thursday in the western city of San Francisco, reports from San Francisco said Friday.

A 12-year-old girl from China from a youth tour group to the United States was missing Thursday in the western city of San Francisco, reports from San Francisco said Friday.

San Francisco police are searching the San Francisco International Airport on Friday for the girl, Yukun Jia, who was separated from the tour group at the airport Thursday afternoon. The group was scheduled to head to the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, the U.S. TV network CNN reported.

A spokesman for the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco who was reached by Xinhua on Friday morning could not confirm or deny the report.

Police say the tour group, made up of 28 young people from Beijing and their adult guides, landed at San Francisco International Airport at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time Thursday. The girlwent missing after her request to use the restroom was denied by the tour guide after the group went through customs.

A head count was taken as the group concluded an hour's tour ofthe Stanford University campus just south of the airport about 4:00 p.m., and the girl could not be found.

The girl, who speaks little English, was described as wearing a white Space Camp T-shirt and white pants with a blue stripe. Authorities said the U.S. State Department and the FBI have been notified.
