Kenyan, Chinese Trade Unions to Exchange Programs

Trade unions of Kenya and China have agreed to exchange programs and continue with consultation onlocal and international issues, the Kenyan Central Organization ofTrade Unions (COTU) said in Nairobi Friday.

Trade unions of Kenya and China have agreed to exchange programs and continue with consultation onlocal and international issues, the Kenyan Central Organization ofTrade Unions (COTU) said here Friday.

COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli told journalists in Nairobi immediately after arrival from China that All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) has agreed to support the expansion of the Kenya's Tom Mboya Labor College located in Kisumucity.

"The proposed Information Technology College at Tom Mboya LaborCollege shall be provided with computers from China by ACFTU," Atwoli said.

The COTU officials visited China on invitation of ACFTU from July 24 to 31.

He said while in China, the Kenyan delegation met the top leadership of the ACFTU including Wei Jianxing, who leads more than 129 million trade union members.

Atwoli noted that the most encouraging experience in China was that trade unions work closely with the government and the government supports the trade unions' involvement in investment.
