Dalian Returns Atop Chinese Soccer League

Six-time champion Dalian Shide edged Beijing Guo'an 2-1 in to retain the leading position in the Chinese first division soccer league on Sunday.

Six-time champion Dalian Shide edged Beijing Guo'an 2-1 in to retain the leading position in the Chinese first division soccer league on Sunday.

Dalian have garnered 27 points from 14 games with Beijing collecting 23 points from 13 games.

Chinese international striker Hao Haidong opened the scoring for the visitors as he headed home a corner kick at the 44th minute.

Five minutes into the second half, Dalian led 2-0 when Yan Sen connected a pinpoint pass in the penalty area and slotted the ballinto the net.

Paraguay forward Wilbeto Casiano pulled one goal back for Beijing in the 75th minute.

Last week's leaders Shenzhen Ping'an were held 1-1 by the bottom team Shanxi Lijunsha, falling to second place with 25 points.

Shanghai Shenhua, which fired head coach Xu Genbao two weeks ago, ended a five-game losing streak by drawing Qingdao Hademen 1-1.

In the day's other games, Shandong Luneng crushed Liaoning Bird1-0, Bayi Zhenbang drew Chongqing Lifan 0-0, Tianjin Taida tied Yunan Hongta 0-0, and Shenyang Jinde's game against Sichuan Dahe also ended in a goalless draw.
