Thai Gems, Jewelry Exporters Urged to Eye Chinese Market

Producers and exporters of Thai gems and jewelry should pay more attention to the Chinese market and expand their exports to the huge Asian market, said a report of the Thai Farmers' Bank Research Center available Tuesday in Bangkok.

Producers and exporters of Thai gems and jewelry should pay more attention to the Chinese market and expand their exports to the huge Asian market, said a report of the Thai Farmers' Bank Research Center available Tuesday in Bangkok.

The Bangkok-based research center advised local gems and jewelry producers, particularly those producing medium and lower graded products, to expand their exports to the huge Chinese market.

Exports of Thai gems and jewelry to such major markets as the United States, the European Union (EU) and Japan were being affected by similar products from rival countries, the report pointed out.

There are still rooms for the medium and lower graded products,as well as artificial ones in the Chinese market, particularly in big cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, it stressed.

With this strategy, the local gems and jewelry industry could get out of its crisis and continue to earn themselves and the country export revenues from the products, suggested the leading think tank.
