The French government Tuesday adopted the decree to disband a rightist extremist group named Radical Unity, which is found linked to Maxime Brunerie, the attacker who attempted to shoot French President Jacques Chirac on July 14.

French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said the group was disbanded because it "propagates ideas inciting hatred, violence and discrimination for racist motivations."

Radical Unity is hostile towards all forms of immigration and its ideology is based on the exaltation of the white race, said Sarkozy, adding that the group hates in particular the Jewish and Arab communities.

"The protection of public order and peace necessitates the dissolution of this group," he said.

Maxime Brunerie, 25, who opened fire with a 0.22-caliber rifleat Chirac during the national day parade in center Paris, is foundinvolved with various extreme-right and neo-Nazi groups including Radical Unity.

After two weeks under medical care, Brunerie was placed under investigation last week for attempted assassination.
