Senior Military Officer Meets Zambian Guests

Fu Quanyou, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met Tuesday with I. Chisuzi, commander of the Zambian land forces, and his party.

Fu, also member of the Central Military Commission, said although China and Zambia are geographically far apart, the people of the two countries share a long-standing friendship.

With joint efforts, he said, the friendly relations between thetwo countries have developed steadily and continuously since the establishment of diplomatic ties.

In recent years, the exchange of visits between the state leaders and military officers of the two sides has helped promote mutual understanding and trust and enhanced bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields, he said.

Fu said the Chinese government and people attach great importance to the Sino-Zambian friendship. China is ready in the 21st century to join with its Zambian friends to push forward the existing wide-ranging friendly cooperative relations.

Chisuzi said the friendly relations between Zambia and China can date back to the time when Zambia was struggling for independence. He said Zambia values its long-standing friendship with China, stressing that it will consistently pursue the "One China" policy and forever stand on the side of China.

The visitors arrived in Beijing Sunday for an eight-day official goodwill visit to China at the invitation of the Headquarters of the PLA General Staff.
