Ugandan State Minister for Karamoja Development Peter Lokeris and Kenyan Labor Minister Ethuro Ekuwe escaped unhurt when some armed Karamoja warriors on Tuesday ambushed them at Lakari on the Moroto-Mbale road, the New Vision newspaper reported on Thursday.

One of their escorts from the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) was seriously injured and has been sent to Moroto Hospital.

The 15-member Kenyan delegation included two Kenyan commissioners and MPs were traveling back to Kenya after a peace meeting at Moroto. They were escorted to the Uganda-Kenya border by Lokeris and UPDF tankers.

Moroto district commissioner and chairman of the district security committee John Abingwa said the warriors launched a surprise attack on the UPDF soldiers who were ahead, forcing the dignitaries to take cover.

Abingwa explained that the attack was carried out by criminals who are against the disarmament exercise in the region.
