Ten Confirmed Dead in US Military Plane Crash in Puerto Rico

All the 10 people aboard a US Air Force cargo plane were killed when the C-130 crashed in the mountains of Puerto Rico during a training mission, a military spokesman said Thursday.

All the 10 people aboard a US Air Force cargo plane were killed when the C-130 crashed in the mountains of Puerto Rico during a training mission, a military spokesman said Thursday.

"There were 10 people on board and there were no survivors," a spokesman for the U.S. Southern Command military headquarters in Miami, Ark Merkel, told local reporters.

The plane struck a mountaintop on Wednesday night near the townof Caguas, 20 miles (about 32 kilometers) south of San Juan in Puerto Rico while flying in rain and fog, local officials said.

The plane, designated to a U.S. military Special Operations unit, was on a routine training mission. Rescuers tried to hack their way to the site through Wednesday night and early Thursday.
