The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday urged the United States to abandon itshostile policy toward the country so as to create conditions for progress in the DPRK-US dialogue.

In an interview with the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a spokesman for the DPRK foreign ministry said: "The point is for the United States to drop its hostile policy toward the DPRK and if not, there would be nothing to expect from the (DPKR-US) dialogue though it is held."

He refuted US assertions that the DPRK's description of the proposed visit by a US special envoy as an established fact was anoverstatement and that the Pyongyang-Washington dialogue would depend on words and acts of the DPRK.

DPRK Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun and his U.S. counterpart Colin Powell held 15-minute talks during the ministerial meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Brunei, at which Powell confirmed the proposed visit by Assistant Secretary of State James Kelly to Pyongyang in the near future.

Pyongyang welcomed the U.S. side's reiteration of its intentionto dispatch its special envoy to Pyongyang, the spokesman said.

However, "if the U.S. side has any unavoidable reason, we do not care whether it reconsiders the issue and acts at its convenience," he added.
