Two naval warships, two police patrol boats and dozens of fishing boats in China's southernmost island province of Hainan have been aroused to search for a Hong Kong fishing boat reported missing early Wednesday morning.

Seven crew members were on the missing boat, including two HongKong residents and five from the Chinese Mainland, sources said. It lost contact with its partner boat at around 5 a.m. Wednesday while fishing off the coast of Basuo port of Hainan's Dongfang city.

The Hainan Maritime Search and Rescue Center, upon receiving the report, immediately launched a massive search and also sought assistance from a local naval base.

At midnight Wednesday, after a 12-hour search, the center decided to extend the searching area to 2,376 sq km and the searchmission is still underway.

Latest reports from the search team said that by 7 p.m. Thursday there was still no evident sign of the missing boat or its crew members. However, one police patrol boat had found oil spills coming out of the water at latitude 19 degrees and 5'54'' north and longitude 107 degrees and 59'96'' east, sources said.
