China sees maintaining world peace and promoting common development as keys for tackling the problem of refugees, displaced people and migrants.

The unjust and unreasonable international political and economic order was the root cause of refugee issues, Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Guangya said at the Third Mekong Sub-Regional Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Consultations on Refugees, Displaced Persons and Migrants which opened in Beijing on Thursday.

The effective way to realize the goal of world peace and development was through improved international cooperation and capability building among concerned nations, he said.

Representatives from China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) attended the two-day meeting.

The theme of the meeting was "the need for durable and sustainable solutions to the problem of refugees, displaced peopleand migrants in the areas of prevention, protection, return and reintegration".
