At least 20 people were killed and many others wounded near the Afghan city of Jalalabad on Friday in an explosion at an office of a non-governmental organization, according to the Peshawar-based Afghan Islamic Press(AIP).

"So far 20 bodies have been recovered according to an AIP correspondent in the area," the AIP report said.

The explosion happened at the offices of the Afghan Construction and Logistics Unit (ACLU) some 10 kilometers west of Jalalabad. ACLU is said to be involved in road construction.

The report said more than 50 people were killed or wounded.

The explosion could have been caused by the detonation of explosives stored at the unit for use in road construction, AIP said.
