China Promulgates New Regulations on Trademark Law

The State Council, China's cabinet, on Sunday promulgated Regulations on the Implementation of the Trademark Law of the People's Republic of China.

The State Council, China's cabinet, on Sunday promulgated Regulations on the Implementation of the Trademark Law of the People's Republic of China.

The new regulations, which consist of 59 articles in eight chapters, will take effect on Sept. 15 this year, replacing the existing Detailed Rules on the Implementation of the Trademark Law,said a State Council decree.

The regulations cover the application process of trademark registration, examination of such applications, transfer and inheritance of registered trademarks, management of trademark usage, protection of registered trademarks and other areas.

China's Trademark Law took effect in 1983 and was revised in 1993 to be more compatible with the World Trade Organization.
