The death toll in floods in Russia's southern Krasnodar region has increased to 58, a spokesman of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said on Sunday.

49 people died in the suburbs of the Black Sea city of Novorossiysk, five in the village of Nizhnebakansk, three in Tuapse and one in Gelenzhik. Of the dead, 16 bodies have not been identified so far.

The majority of killed are local residents and several people are still listed as missing, said the spokesman.

Flooding caused by torrential rains submerged the Black Sea coast Thursday, inundating 15 Russian Black Sea villages.

According to preliminary data, 379 houses were completely destroyed and 1,823 were damaged. Over 30,000 people were still living in the area of the state of emergency.

Russian President Vladimir Putin Saturday instructed various agencies to coordinate their efforts and jointly fight the floods.
