Seven Tons of Marihuana Seized in Brazil

The Brazilian police on Monday seized seven tons of marihuana on a plantation in Sao Paulo state,the largest amount of drugs captured so far this year.

The Brazilian police on Monday seized seven tons of marihuana on a plantation in Sao Paulo state,the largest amount of drugs captured so far this year.

The police said the marihuana was found in rural Parangaba, andone ton of the marihuana had been loaded into a truck heading for the nearby city of Caraguatatuba.

Two individuals involved were arrested and the one, who was in charge of the plantation, escaped.

Figures from the Justice Ministry showed that a total of 168 tons of drugs were seized in 2000 and 151 tons in 2001.
