A civic delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) arrived at Incheon International Airport of South Korea on Wednesday morning for joint celebrations.

The 116-member delegation, led by Kim Yong-dae, chairman of the DPRK National Reconciliation Council, took the same inter-Korean direct route over the Yellow Sea as the DPRK delegation for the minister-level talks did two days ago.

The delegation came for joint celebrations with the South to mark the Liberation Day, commemorating the overthrow of the Japanese colonial rule on the Korean Peninsula on Aug. 15, 1945.

The two-day celebrations include diversified events, such as an opening ceremony with 400 participants from both sides' civic organizations, a joint artistic performance, an academic seminar on the preservation of sovereignty over Dokdo Islet which has provoked controversy between Japan and the Korean side.

The DPRK delegates came amid the on-going third round of the seventh inter-Korean ministerial talks, which were to conclude Wednesday.

It will leave for Pyongyang aboard its own plane via the direct air route Saturday morning.
