Beijing Retrieves 140 Million Yuan of Unpaid Tax

The local taxation department in Beijing retrieved 140 million yuan (16.9 million US dollars) in unpaid taxes on the basis of public tip-offs in the first half of this year.

The local taxation department in Beijing retrieved 140 million yuan (16.9 million US dollars) in unpaid taxes on the basis of public tip-offs in the first half of this year.

A total of 688 tax evasion cases were reported in the first six months, of which 580 cases have so far been settled. Tax evaders paid 116 million yuan (14 million dollars) of tax evaded and 24 million yuan (2.9 million dollars) in penalties.

The taxation department commended 20 public informers with rewards totaling 136,000 yuan (16,444 dollars).

Beijing opened a telephone hotline on the number 12366 on August 1 to receive tax evasion reports from the public.
