Pakistan Committed to Root Out Terrorism: Musharraf

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said in Islamabad on Wednesday that Pakistan is firmly committedto root out the scourge of terrorism so that the world is a safer place to live in.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said in Islamabad on Wednesday that Pakistan is firmly committedto root out the scourge of terrorism so that the world is a safer place to live in.

Musharraf made the pledge when addressing a ceremony to hoist the national flag to mark the Pakistani Independence Day.

"We all have to put in joint efforts to root out those who are maligning our religion and tarnishing the image of Pakistan," the president said.

While pointing out there are no quick fix solutions to the problem of sectarianism and extremism, Musharraf said the government is following methodical approach and the results are encouraging.

The president said the country's security agencies have alreadymade very important breakthroughs. "A sizeable number of gangs of terrorists have been busted and almost all top criminals with headmoney have been apprehended," he said.
