Elias Soley, representative of Costa Rican coach Alexandre Guimaraes, clarified on Thursday that it's a "rumour" for the Chinese national soccer team to hire the latter to replace Serbian Velibor "Bora" Milutinovic.

Soley explained to the press that Guimaraes was invited to China by a sports promotion firm, which he did not identify, to have a deeper understanding of soccer in China. During his stay in China, he delivered speeches and appeared on TV interviews.

Guimaraes "made use of the trip to talk with representatives of two Chinese clubs that are interested in his services, but at no point did he meet with people of the (Chinese Soccer) Federation," Soley said.

Soley further pointed out that talks with Chinese soccer officials are "personal in character" because "he is negotiating nothing".

Yet, he admitted that the information Guimaraes will bring to Costa Rica will be "very important" for negotiation in the future.

Jorge Munoz, president of the National Teams Commission, said that the Costa Rican soccer federation is making an effort to reach a new contract with Guimaraes, offering 12,500 dollars a month to 20,000 when the heat for the Germany 2006 World Cup starts.

Rumours are flared up as Guimaraes' contract with Costa Rica will end on August 31 and his renewal is not yet confirmed.
