The provincial government of Yunnan has held a special conference to organize geological disaster relief and prevention.

Over 100 such calamities as floods, landslides and mudflows have struck the southwest China province this year, leaving over 100 people dead and over 70 missing. A total of 1.3 million peoplehave been affected.

Governor Xu Rongkai addressed the meeting on Friday and orderedleading officials at different levels to be responsible for rescuing people affected by disasters.

Local governments must ensure the supply of food, water, clothing, housing, medical services and schooling in affected areas, the governor said.

Local departments concerned should make timely reports on any disasters and their consequences, he noted.

Xu added that frequent geological disasters indicated the poor environmental conditions in the province.
