A 10-day Chinese photographic exhibition entitled "100 Major Archeological Discoveries of China in the 20th Century" opened here Friday.

The 100 major discoveries displayed in the exhibition, which are selected by the Science Academy of China, range from the site of the Yuanmou Man of 1.7 million years ago to the Ding Ling Mausoleum of the 16th century.

These discoveries have reportedly caused great impact and interest among the international academic communities.

Opening the exhibition, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Ai Ping said the exhibition would give Ethiopians a better chance to understand the Chinese ancient civilizations.

"Both countries attach great importance on archeology so as to acquire more understanding of our ancestors, the makers of our rich cultural heritages," added the ambassador.

Some 200 visitors coming from Ethiopian academic circle and diplomatic corps to the country attended the opening ceremony.
