Strong Tropical Storm Hits China

Tropical cyclone Vongfeng turned into strong tropical storm as it headed towards China this afternoon, said China's Central Meteorological Station Monday evening.

Tropical cyclone Vongfeng turned into strong tropical storm as it headed towards China this afternoon, said China's Central Meteorological Station Monday evening.

At 5 p.m., the center of the storm was about 60 kilometers eastZhanjiang city, south China's Guangdong Province, (20.5 degrees north latitude, 110.7 degrees east longitude).

The forecast indicated that the South China Sea, the Beibu Gulfand the coastal areas of Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region would be hit by gale force six to eight winds from Monday night to Tuesday.

The storm center will also produce gale force winds of up to force 10 in surrounding sea areas. Southern and western parts of Guangdong and most parts of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Hainan, Hunan and Guizhou provinces will have rainstorms.
