China has decided to send in an all-new squad for the upcoming women's volleyball World Championship slated from August 30 to September 15 in Germany.
Among the 12-member squad, none of the spikers has any experience in the world championship as veteran Wu Yongmei was singled out for a dual-libero combination of Xiong Zi and Li Ying.
"We made the decision due to the tough challenges from Russia, Cuba and other European and South American squads," said Chinese head coach Chen Zhonghe, "These players are strong in serve and our fast-attacking tactics heavily rely upon solid first receives."
"We have to strengthen our back-court defense, and the dual-libero combination will ensure a substitute for every position," said the coach.
The Chinese delegation will gathered in Beijing on August 22 and fly to the Netherlands for three warmups prior to the world championships.
The Chinese roster is composed of Zhang Jing, Feng Kun, Yang Hao, Liu Yanan, Li Shan, Zhou Suhong, Zhao Leilei, Zhang Yuehong, Chen jing, Song Nina, Li Ying and Xiong Zi.
