40 Killed, 23 Still Missing in Mudslide in SW. China

Forty people have been confirmed dead in a massive mudslide which occurred in southwest China's Yunnan Province last Wednesday, while 23 others are still missing.

Forty people have been confirmed dead in a massive mudslide which occurred in southwest China's Yunnan Province last Wednesday, while 23 others are still missing.

Most of the victims were villagers, according to rescuers.

Local government officials and over 3,000 soldiers, police officers and militia have joined the rescue efforts.

Local people fear that there could be more landslides and mudflows in the coming days as meteorological departments have forecast more rain for Tuesday and Wednesday.
