Chinese Defense Minister Meets Tanzanian Military Commander

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Wednesday with George Waitara, commander of the People's Defense Forces of Tanzania.

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Wednesday with George Waitara, commander of the People's Defense Forces of Tanzania.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and State Councilor, said that fruitful results have been made in bilateral cooperation through the frequent exchange of high-level visits between China and Tanzania in recent years.

He noted that the two peoples have shared profound and traditional friendship. Due to the common efforts of the two presidents, the Sino-Tanzanian friendly ties and cooperation have developed steadily.

China appreciates achievements that Tanzania has made in boosting its national economy, improving people's living standardsand maintaining regional peace and stability, Chi said.

He said China thanked Tanzania for its firm support on the issues of Taiwan and human rights, adding that the Chinese government is ready to push forward the traditional bilateral relationship and cooperation together with the Tanzanian government.

Waitara appreciated the support and assistance that the Chinesegovernment and military forces have given to Tanzania. He reiterated that Tanzania will remain firm in its support for China.

Waitara hoped that his current China visit will help strengthen the friendly cooperative relations between the two countries and the two military forces.
