Palestinian and Israeli security officials met in Gaza late Wednesday on the implementation of a recent deal leading to the gradual pullout from the territories taken by Israeli army in the past 23 months.

Palestinian security sources said Brig. Gen. Abdel Razaq Al Majayda held talks with his Israeli counterpart Brig. Doron AlMog at the Erez crossing in the northern Gaza Strip.

Al Majayda then briefed Palestinian security and police chiefs on the talks and discussed with them what the Palestinian side should do to facilitate the implementation of the pullout plan.

The Palestinian and Israeli officials met in the afternoon to discuss details about mutual commitments to make the deal a success, said the sources.

Al Majayda presented a list of the Palestinian requests urging Israel to remove roadblocks and lift all the tightened measures at terminals, crossings and checkpoints.

The Palestinian side demanded efforts to bring the situation back to Sept. 28, 2000, when the Palestinian Intifada, or uprising, erupted against the Israeli occupation.

The sources said the Israeli army officers took the list of the Palestinian demands and promised that it would be studied in depth by the army leadership. An answer is expected three days later at another meeting between the two sides.

Under the "Gaza-Bethlehem first" plan, the latest security deal between the two sides, Israeli army will gradually pull out of the two West Bank towns and transfer the local security responsibility to the Palestinian security police. The plan may be expanded to other Palestinian areas depending on improvements of the situation.
