China's 1st College for Disabled Marks 15th Anniversary

China's first college for the disabled, the Institute of Special Education at Changchun University, celebrated its 15th anniversary on Wednesday.

China's first college for the disabled, the Institute of Special Education at Changchun University, celebrated its 15th anniversary on Wednesday.

Deng Pufang, chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation,said at the celebration ceremony that the school was the largest and best of its kind in the country.

Since 1987, 870 handicapped students have graduated from the college in Changchun City, the capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.

Currently, over 400 students are studying at the college, whichhas five major subjects - art design, painting, acupuncture and massage, music and art performance, and accountancy. It has 45 teachers including 17 senior ones.

Some of its students are members of the China Disabled Persons'Art Troupe and have performed in 18 foreign countries and regions.
