Thirty-six passengers received decontamination treatment at the Miami International Airport on Wednesday after being exposed to a chemical spill from air conditioners, the CNN reported.

The passengers complained scratchy throats and burning eyes, some coughing, after fumes got out from the conditioning system, the report said. Their conditions were described as not serious.

The concourse where the sickened passengers were staying was evacuated while special teams dealing with chemical substance began to check what went wrong.

A police spokesman described as inaccurate earlier reports thatthe evacuation was called upon after a bag with white powder inside went through security check but the owner of the bag disappeared. The spokesman said no anthrax was found on the scene.

Five people were killed and 13 others sickened last fall by anthrax-laced mails.
