Turkmenistan will stick to the One-China policy and will support China in its efforts to play a bigger role in the world arena, said Turkmenistan's top legislator Wednesday in Ashkhabad.

Tagandurdy Hallyev, chairman of the Grand National Assembly, made the pledge during his meeting with visiting deputy head of the International Liaison Department of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, Cai Wu, who led a Chinese Communist Partydelegation on a visit in Turkmenistan.

Thanks to joint efforts by the two sides, Sino-Turkmen ties have been developing smoothly, said Hallyev.

Ever since China and Turkmenistan forged diplomatic ties 10 years ago, the exchange of visits by the two countries' leaders have contributed to the further strengthening and development of bilateral ties.

The Chinese delegation kicked off a four-day visit to Turkmenstan Tuesday at the invitation of the Turkmenstan Democratic Party. On Wednesday Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredou met with the Chinese delegation and the two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual concern.
