CPPCC Chairman Meets President of Zanzibar
Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met Thursday with Amani Abeid Karume, president of Zanzibar of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met Thursday with Amani Abeid Karume, president of Zanzibar of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Li noted that although China and Tanzania are far apart geographically, they have enjoyed a traditional deep friendship. Such relationship has grown smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic ties 38 years ago.
The Chinese government and people sincerely hoped that Tanzania will succeed on its road to development, and hoped Karume's visit will help promote friendly bilateral ties.
Karume said his country and China shared similar sufferings inthe past and Tanzania appreciated China's generous help to Tanzania, saying that his country is willing to work with China toboost bilateral ties.
Chinese President Jiang Zemin also met with Karume Thursday, and Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao held talks with him Wednesday.
