Most of 3,000 passengers, forced by bad weather to stay for the last two days at Gongga Airport in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, have left for home.

Over 2,000 of the passengers flew out on Thursday morning into clear skies, but over 700 were further delayed when low cloud descended in the afternoon.

Airport authorities have canceled seven flights, including three on Wednesday. Whether flights would resume on Friday depended on weather conditions, they said.

According to local meteorologists, the overcast and rainy days could last until August 25, after which the impact on flights would ease.
