Japan's Nippon Electric Glass Co. said Friday it has established a new subsidiary in China to expand output of glass bulbs for cathode-ray tubes (CRTs).

The subsidiary, called Nippon Electric Glass (Fujian) Co., is located in east China's Fuzhou city, Nippon Electric said.

The wholly owned subsidiary will invest about 14 billion yen (117.6 million US dollars) to produce CRT bulbs at an annual rate of 6.5 million units from March 2004, the firm said.

The company expects sales of about 4.5 billion yen (37.8 million dollars) from the new Chinese operation in the first year and about 7 billion yen (58.8 million dollars) in the second year.

Nippon Electric Glass already has two CRT glass factories in China, one in Fujian Province and the other in Hebei Province.
