United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan is set to start a tour of five African countries on Sunday, with a priority to attending the World Summitfor Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, the UN announced Friday.

He will arrive in Angola on the first leg of his visit for a meeting with President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, according to a schedule released by the UN spokesman's office.

Annan's visit comes after the Security Council earlier this month approved the establishment of a UN mission in Angola to provide more coordinated response to the changing atmosphere in the country following the death of rebel leader Jonas Savimbi and recent peace efforts between the Government and the National Unionfor the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA).

On Tuesday, Annan will visit Botswana, with a HIV/AIDS project on his agenda. His next stops will be Lesotho and Mozambique before arriving in Johannesburg on September 1 for the Summit's activities.
