Iraqi foreign minister leaves for visit to China

Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri left Baghdad Saturday for his first visit to China since he assumed the post last August.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri left Baghdad Saturday for his first visit to China since he assumed the post last August.

Sabri is to begin his official visit to China from Aug. 26 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Tang Jiaxuan. Before his arrival in China, the Iraqi foreign minister will make a stopover in Damascus, Syria.

Sabri will exchange views with Chinese leaders on bilateral relations and issues of common concern during his stay in China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said on Tuesday.

Chinese charge d'affaires ad interim in Iraq Wu Chuanqing saw Sabri off at the Saddam International Airport.
