Iran opposes US naval presence in the Persian Gulf

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi has reiterated Iran's opposition to the presence of US navyin the Persian Gulf, local press reported on Saturday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi has reiterated Iran's opposition to the presence of US navy in the Persian Gulf, local press reported on Saturday.

Kharazi made the statement during a visit to the South Pars gas field in Bushehr on Friday.

"We have always been opposed to the presence of foreign forces in this region, because they are after their own special aims, which are not in line with the interests of countries in the region including Iran," Kharazi said.

Referring to situation in the Persian Gulf region, Kharazi said that Iran is carrying out a policy of "detente and confidence building" to boost dialogue and economic cooperation in favor of regional peace, stability and security.

"We hope that peace and security will soon return to this region and foreign forces will leave," the foreign minister said.
