An expressway from Benxi to Dandong, both cities in northeastern Liaoning Province, was completed Monday, connecting the northeast and northwest sections of the country's main expressway.

Neighboring the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Dandong is China's largest border city. The road is also the first of its kind in China to run to the banks of the Yalu River, shared by both countries.

By connecting 14 cities within the province, it is expected the expressway will benefit the economies of both northeast China and eastern Asia.

Commenced in December 1998, the line runs 134 kilometers and winds through mountainous regions.
