Chief of PLA General Staff Holds Talks with Polish Guests

Fu Quanyou, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks Monday with the visiting chief of general staff of the armed forces of Poland, Czeslaw Piatas.

Fu Quanyou, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks Monday with the visiting chief of general staff of the armed forces of Poland, Czeslaw Piatas.

Fu, also a member of the Chinese Central Military Commission, said the Chinese armed forces has always taken a positive attitude toward developing friendly cooperative ties with the Polish army.

The two countries and their armed forces have enjoyed a traditional friendship, said Fu, noting that especially bilateral military ties have progressed well in recent years.

Fu said he hoped that bilateral cooperative relations would be further improved with Piatas' current visit to China.

As to the Taiwan issue, Fu noted that China will continue to adhere to the basic principle of "peaceful reunification", "one country and two systems" and will keep to the Eight Proposals set forth by President Jiang Zemin.

China will make utmost efforts to seek peaceful reunification, while at the same time will not undertake to refrain from using military force.

Piatas voiced his appreciation of China's achievements in its economic development and army building. He said he hoped that his visit to China would further improve friendly cooperative relations between the two countries and the two armed forces.

Prior to the talks, a welcome ceremony was held in honor of Piatas.
